  • Product list: P.L. BERRY ASSOCIATES was founded in 1956 by Peter Loftus Berry, under the name of P.L. BERRY CO. In 1957 Mr. Berry was joined in partnership by Mr. McCready, who operated a branch office in Wellington. This partnership was terminated amicably in 1963 when the Wellington practice of WEST-WALKER, McCREADY and the Christchurch practice of P.L. BERRY ASSOCIATES were formed. In 1975 Peter Berry placed the practice under the managership of Elspeth Buchanan, whilst he pursued other interests. In 1977 Elspeth Buchanan purchased the practice and Peter Berry became a consultant to the practice. Elspeth Buchanan holds the Honours degree of Batchelor of Metallurgy from Sheffield University in England, is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institute of Materials. She is a Registered Patent Attorney in Australia and New Zealand and a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys. Elspeth Buchanan is assisted by technical assistants, Alan Chadwick who holds the degree of Batchelor of Chemical and Process Engineering from Canterbury University, and Virginia Nichols who holds an Batchelor degree with honours in Physics, a Master's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a Batchelor of laws, all from Canterbury University. A practice manager / draughtsman, office / accounts manager, three secretary / typists and a receptionist complete the staff. P.L. Berry Associates is a general practice, which deals with all intellectual property matters. Where local clients require protection or advice from overseas, we have a wide range of associates in other countries, with whom we have dealt for many years, who assist us in providing this service. Our New Zealand clients are predominantly from the South Island. Our overseas clients are from virtually every country in the world and like our New Zealand clients, range from private individuals to fellow attorneys and international corporations.
