- Product list: The main purpose of the New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum is to honour and record the history of New Zealand fighter pilots and their crew and to educate the public about their exploits. The museum has developed alongside the Alpine Fighter Collection and Warbirds Over Wanaka. On a per capita basis New Zealand contributed more fighter pilots than any other country during WWII. Over 5000 New Zealanders flew fighter aircraft in the service of their country, but flying these aircraft also exacted a heavy toll. There were 780 New Zealanders killed - over 80% had not reached their 25th birthday. New Zealand also contributed the greatest number of fighter aces (on a per capita basis) during World War II. A fighter ace is a pilot that destroyed five or more enemy aircraft in air-to-air combat. The museum tells of these pilots and their deeds in audio, video, photographic and story form. These accounts range from biographies of all the fighter aces to absorbing descriptions of their experiences.
