Abundant native bush and ferns, watergardens, birds (Tuis, Fantails, Silver Eyes and Wood Pigeons), meandering walks over bridges and streams and a bush walk to a cascading waterfall. Nearby Kauaeranga Valley offers extensive walking tracks. Activities include visiting a tropical butterfly and orchid garden, scenic flights, canyoning, gold mine and soap factory tours, golf, tennis, bowls, croquet, fishing and swimming. Local art, crafts and pottery abound, and there are some excellent dining spots. Thames runs a market in the main street every Saturday morning.
