  • Product list: After a year of searching, Natalia Schamroth and Carl Koppenhagen found the perfect building for a bistro idea they had worked on for some time. A former post office, circa 1930, with loads of character in Northcote Point, just 5 minutes from Downtown Auckland. Keeping in sync with the era of the building, splashes of colour, come from a personal collection of 1930sAustralian Depression Glass. There are homely touches of bowls of fresh produce, bookshelves laden with cookbooks and always a homemade tart on the kitchen counter. And an open kitchen to check out the action. The Engine Room is a small neighborhood bistro operated by Natalia, Carl and their small team. Their aim is to provide an informal and fun environment with a concise menu and wine list. Both menu and wine list are handwritten (the menu on a board above the kitchen), to enable Natalia and Carl to change dishes and wines on a regular basis. By doing this it keeps things exciting for regular customers, staff and themselves. Concentrating on premium local produce, including home grown goods. The menu is made up of a combination of classic bistro dishes along with International and local favorites, check out the Twice-baked Goats cheese souffle, Steak Frittes, Thai prawn salad, Middle Eastern rare beef, pomegranate and date salad, Churros con Chocolate, Pavlova with homegrown passion fruitoh, and handmade Valrhona chocolate truffles. The Engine Room has 3 booking times 6-6.30, 7-7.30 and 8.30. The early sitting being a 2-hour slot. Bookings are essential to avoid disappointment.
